About us

Chris and Jill Howell bought Seaway as a very small insurance brokerage back in 1987. Prior to that they had both worked within the industry, Chris for 23 years on the life, investment and pensions side and Jill as secretary to a director of a major Lloyds brokerage.

Since 1987 Seaway has grown to offer a local approach to insurance throughout the UK, with clients in Scotland, Lancashire and Yorkshire, The Midlands where they lived and worked for some years, East Anglia, all around the London area and down to the South Coast.

Then, across the country to Bristol, where they opened a branch office in Keynsham in 2007 and to their main offices in Torquay.

That is the background, what about the actual service offered?

“Because we work in a service industry, we try to provide a good service and because we care about our clients, we believe that we do provide as good a service as is available across the country. We are not always the fastest to quote, because servicing our existing clients is most important, but we try to maintain an individual contact and always go the extra mile to help whatever the query.”

Existing clients matter so we do not lose clients. We still have the household insurance for our first client, living some 16 miles north of Melton Mowbray and with the exception of three who unfortunately have died and one who went elsewhere we also still provide our services for all the clients that came with Seaway in 1987.

As far as our staff go, much the same applies, Hilary dealing with existing general insurance business and claims came with Seaway, Brian dealing with new general insurances joined in 1999, Sonia motor department joined us in 1989, Ann, accounts in 2007 and David, with a view to sales and servicing general insurances 2007 and most recently in 2008 Tessa as part of the accounts area and Christof dealing with our own brand house and contents contract.

We believe that we are only as good as our last quotation and our last claim, we offer, as you can see from our Home page, all general insurances and if you pass on to our site for our sister organisation on the life and investment areas, you will see what we offer there.

We need to try to understand you as our client and therefore we may spend rather more time to discuss your requirements, ambitions and business, than other intermediaries, but that is because we believe there is no such thing as too much information.
