The ExtraCare Charitable Trust enables older people to enjoy a healthier, active and more independent lifestyle in a network of inspirational communities that represent a modern alternative to the traditional care or nursing home. The Charity operates 13 retirement villages and 17 smaller housing developments across the Midlands and the North.
We work with some of the UK's most forward-thinking local authorities, housing partners and primary care trusts, as well as leading statutory agencies and donors. Our partnerships are tailored to the needs of local areas and bring together the skills, expertise and finance to develop and operate each Scheme or Village. By working as a team we are able to create projects on a bigger and better scale, with the result that our impact within the local community is far greater than could be achieved by working alone.
Each ExtraCare resident can expect a safe, secure future, renting or buying a spacious and affordable home with award-winning care and a wide range of social opportunities to enjoy.
The ExtraCare Charitable Trust is committed to developing inspirational villages for the over 55s, as an alternative to the traditional care home.

We enable older people to enjoy healthy, active, and independent lifestyles in their later years.
We believe that health, age or financial means should be no barrier to an enhanced quality of life.
Offering levels of on-site care appropriate to individual needs, we foster an environment of supported independence where residents can take advantage of the social and leisure opportunities provided by the Trust.
Our communities are diverse and fun. Residents can enjoy exciting activities and engage with family, friends and volunteers representing all generations.
"How does one keep from 'growing old inside'? Surely only in community. The only way to make friends with time is to stay friends with people… Taking community seriously not only gives us the companionship we need, it also relieves us of the notion that we are indispensable."
